I install an Emerson SecureStart soft starter on a 2001 3 ton Bryant. The goal was to eliminate light-flicker in the house during startup and lower the inrush current enough to allow the A/C to start on generator power if needed. This is also the same unit which is sold as a Hyper Engineering SureStart. Based on the inrush current tests that I did, It appears to work well.
